About the multitude of fillings that you can make for pierogi.
Historically, pierogi were, and in reality still are, filled with whatever was available. With time, however, certain fillings became generally accepted and popular.
You can find some old recipes for fillings made of boar, hare, birds, pumpkin, fruits and berries of all sorts, vegetables, and any variety of cheeses.
If you have leftovers of any sort, use them for a filling.
Just be sure to chill any filling before you put it the dough.
And be careful of the seal. If you get any filling in the sealing area, the pierogi will leak the filling when you cook them.
To avoid sealing problems, we recommend that you use a pierogi maker. Watch the video and you will see why.
You may get one of these pierogi makers at Poland’s Best Home & Hobby Store.
